Balanced Diet
Everyone has heard since grade school about the importance of a balanced diet. Our preschoolers even hear from the Wiggles about a balanced diet. However constant research and ever changing guidelines have many people confused as to just what a balanced diet consists of and what are the benefits of a balanced diet. The definition of a balanced diet basically states that a balanced healthy diet is a combination of foods that promote growth and well being. So if you eat a balanced diet, your body will have everything it needs to go about your daily activities, keeping you healthier and more fit than those who do not eat a well balanced diet. Once you understand just what is a balanced diet, the next step is understanding the components of a balanced diet. The best balanced diet would contain foods from the five basic food groups. This may confuse some of the older people, as most were taught about four food groups as children. Currently guidelines have changed slightly to include fats and sweets as a group of their own, allowing minimal amounts of these items. Confusion may also set in among those who chose a vegetarian lifestyle. However, replacing the formerly titled meat group with the title protein group has added other options for these people to develop a balanced vegetarian diet. There is no real excuse for not finding a balanced diet that will work for you and your family. |
